Staywell.Health secures investment led by Equanimity Investments for AI-native insurance platform

Staywell.Health, an AI-native health insurance distribution platform based in Mumbai, has closed an investment round led by Equanimity Investments, with participation from a select group of investors. The company plans to use the capital to accelerate development of its AI platform, expand its distribution reach, and scale ClaimsKavach, its claims-support proposition.

The company was founded by Arun Ramamurthy, Arup Chatterjee, and Atul Mehta. It focuses exclusively on retail health insurance in India, embedding AI across the customer journey - from needs assessment and policy selection to renewals and claims support - while keeping human advisors in the loop.

Claims-first positioning

Staywell.Health's stated approach is a "claims-first" philosophy, which the founders say distinguishes it from sales-led competitors. ClaimsKavach, the company's flagship proposition, is designed to help customers navigate the claims process with dedicated support.

Rajesh Sehgal, Managing Partner at Equanimity Investments, framed the investment thesis around a structural gap in the market. "Health insurance in India has a distribution problem, not a demand problem," he said. "Families want cover, they just don't trust the process to get them there. Staywell.Health is fixing that by putting AI and human advisors on the same side of the table as the customer. We back founders who choose the harder, claims-first path over the easier, sales-first one."

The insurance sector is increasingly applying AI to distribution and customer service, and platforms like Staywell.Health sit at the intersection of those trends. For professionals working in insurance, the development signals a broader shift toward AI for Insurance as a competitive differentiator in customer acquisition and retention.

What the investment funds

According to the company, the proceeds will go toward three priorities: building out its AI and advisory capabilities, expanding its distribution footprint, and strengthening insurer partnerships. The founders also emphasized a disciplined approach to scaling.

Arun Ramamurthy, Co-founder and CEO of Staywell.Health, said: "Health insurance is one of the most important financial decisions that individuals and families make, yet it often remains complex and difficult to navigate. At Staywell.Health, we believe AI has the potential to fundamentally improve how people discover, understand and use health insurance."

Atul Mehta, Co-founder and CFO, added: "This investment provides us with the financial strength to accelerate our technology roadmap while maintaining a disciplined approach to building a sustainable and scalable business."

Equanimity Investments is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Mumbai, investing from Seed to Series A. Over the last eight years, it has backed more than 25 companies across two funds, including Renee Cosmetics and Neuron Energy.

Why this matters for insurance professionals

For those working in insurance distribution, underwriting, or claims, Staywell.Health's model is a concrete example of how AI is being deployed to address trust and friction in the customer journey - particularly at the claims stage, where customer satisfaction is won or lost. The company's approach pairs AI-driven engagement with human advisors rather than replacing them, which has direct implications for how insurance roles are evolving. The broader AI for Healthcare trend points in the same direction: technology handling scale and personalization, while humans manage judgment and relationship. Professionals who understand both sides of that equation will be better positioned as this model spreads.
