German AI startup Synera raises $40 million for product development automation

Synera, a German startup that builds AI agents for engineering teams, has raised $40 million in funding. The company plans to use the capital to expand its platform and enter markets in the United States, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.

Founded in 2018, Synera provides a platform that lets AI agents independently execute product development workflows. The system connects design, simulation, and optimization processes into a single integrated environment, replacing manual handoffs between tools and teams.

The platform integrates with more than 80 computer-aided design and engineering tools. Data remains on-premises within customer infrastructure, addressing a key concern for companies handling proprietary engineering information.

Why this matters for product development teams

Engineering automation has lagged behind other business functions in AI adoption. Synera CEO Moritz Maier said the field "has been one of the functions that AI has barely been able to reach, and that has not been digitised or automated."

For product development professionals, the platform handles repetitive coordination work-running simulations, comparing design variations, optimizing parameters-without waiting for human input between stages. This reduces cycle time from weeks to days in some workflows.

The funding suggests investor confidence in agentic AI for technical work. Unlike chatbots or analysis tools, agents can operate independently across multiple specialized software systems, which is where much of engineering work actually happens.
