Telangana Plans AI Integration in Power Management as Demand Surges
Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced a plan to use artificial intelligence to manage power supply across the state. The initiative aims to handle growing electricity demand from industrial projects, high-speed rail networks, and data center investments.
At a meeting with senior energy officials, the Chief Minister directed them to deploy AI systems that monitor supply, predict demand patterns, and identify inefficiencies. The focus is on reducing outages and improving distribution efficiency, particularly in areas with high power consumption.
Solar Plants at Substations
The government will build solar power plants next to electricity substations in a decentralized model designed to cut transmission losses and boost local power generation. A pilot project will establish 18 solar plants across nine districts, with two units per district where land permits.
Nodal officers will oversee implementation to accelerate the rollout.
Prioritizing Data Centers and Large Infrastructure
Officials received instructions to fast-track approvals for high-capacity power connections needed by data centers and major infrastructure projects. The state will prioritize applications under its Green Energy Policy to attract investment while maintaining sustainable energy supply.
Grassroots Solar Adoption and New Infrastructure
The government is expanding solar energy access at the community level. Women's self-help groups will receive training on solar power use, and awareness campaigns on solar cooking will roll out statewide.
The Chief Minister also ordered immediate construction of new substations to address the gap between power supply and demand as industrial zones and the Regional Ring Road project accelerate growth.
Officials will also address employee concerns about integration into the Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Limited to ensure a smoother transition.
