TimelyCare Acquires AI Coaching Platform Alongside for Student Mental Health
TimelyCare, a Fort Worth-based virtual care provider serving nearly 500 campuses, has acquired Alongside, an AI coaching platform designed to intervene early in student mental health crises. The acquisition adds a preventive layer to TimelyCare's existing student support services, allowing schools to reach students before problems escalate.
Alongside's platform guides students through stress, loneliness, and academic pressure using evidence-based techniques. The system includes safety protocols that escalate serious concerns to human clinicians when needed. The platform was developed with input from school partners and clinical staff.
Luke Hejl, TimelyCare's CEO, said the integration addresses a gap in how students seek mental health support. "Many students who appear to be doing fine are quietly struggling, and they're increasingly turning to AI for help," Hejl said. "The difference is that most tools they're using weren't designed with clinical input, safety protocols, or accountability. Alongside was."
The combination extends TimelyCare's model beyond crisis response to continuous support. Schools gain access to clinically grounded coaching in everyday moments while maintaining the ability to identify and refer serious cases to human care. For healthcare professionals managing student populations, this represents a shift toward earlier intervention rather than reactive treatment. Learn more about AI for Healthcare and AI for Education.
