TimelyCare earns URAC accreditation for artificial intelligence use in student healthcare

Fort Worth-based TimelyCare has earned URAC's Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Accreditation, becoming one of the first organizations to receive the designation. The virtual health provider, which serves hundreds of colleges and universities, said the accreditation validates its use of AI in student care and confirms that its systems meet strict standards for governance, transparency, safety, and risk management.

Accreditation focuses on implementation, not technology

URAC's program evaluates how organizations deploy AI rather than the technology itself. The accreditation covers areas including governance, risk management, operational processes, and performance monitoring. URAC launched the Health Care AI Accreditation program in 2025 to establish consistent standards for responsible AI use.

How TimelyCare applies AI in student healthcare

TimelyCare uses AI to support clinical documentation, flag potential safety concerns, and assist care teams. The company said its clinicians remain responsible for all patient care decisions, with AI serving as a support tool under human oversight.

"Student safety has always been our highest priority," said Luke Hejl, CEO and co-founder of TimelyCare. "Earning URAC's Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Accreditation demonstrates that we've built AI into our care model responsibly, with rigorous safeguards, transparency, and clinical oversight."

URAC's commitment to ethical AI

Shawn Griffin, president and CEO of URAC, said accredited organizations demonstrate a commitment to using AI "responsibly, ethically, and with a focus on quality outcomes." The accreditation body previously awarded TimelyCare its Telehealth Accreditation.

Why this matters for healthcare professionals

As AI becomes more embedded in clinical workflows, accreditation programs like URAC's offer a framework for evaluating whether tools are safe and transparent. For clinicians, compliance officers, and healthcare administrators, understanding these standards is essential when selecting or implementing AI systems. TimelyCare's accreditation signals that even smaller, specialized providers can meet rigorous national benchmarks, a development worth watching for any organization considering AI-driven care tools.
