TransPerfect has appointed Mark Lawyer to lead its global consulting organization, expanding beyond its core language services as enterprise customers shift from AI experimentation to full operational integration. The New York-based language and AI solutions provider said Lawyer will also join its senior management team, advising executive leadership on information strategy, AI adoption and technology investment.
The appointment signals how the enterprise AI market is changing. Companies no longer struggle to access AI tools - the harder problem is folding them into existing workflows, information systems and operating models while showing measurable returns. TransPerfect is positioning its expanded consulting practice as the bridge between its technology capabilities and those strategic decisions.
Consulting as a growth strategy
Lawyer's organization will work with TransPerfect's technology and AI specialists globally to help customers design and execute transformation programs. The company operates from more than 150 cities on six continents, provides services in more than 200 languages, and counts more than 6,000 organizations as users of its GlobalLink platform for managing multilingual content.
"Our clients increasingly need guidance on implementing AI best practices to navigate enterprise transformation," TransPerfect President and Co-CEO Phil Shawe said in a statement. He emphasized that Lawyer's executive leadership and consulting background would bring capabilities customers can use immediately.
Lawyer brings more than two decades of executive experience, including advising Fortune 500 companies on technology strategy, digital transformation and AI adoption. His background includes work in highly regulated industries such as life sciences, medical devices, financial services and manufacturing. He previously held senior leadership positions at RWS and SDL, and he also served as CEO of North America and president of Regulated Industries & Linguistic AI.
His move is notable because of his previous experience competing with the company. "Having competed with TransPerfect for many years, I saw firsthand the strength of its technology, global scale, and ability to execute for customers," Lawyer said. He described the opportunity as an information-management one - overseeing how enterprises manage and use information to improve efficiency and business outcomes.
Expanding beyond language services
TransPerfect built its scale around language services and multilingual content, areas increasingly reshaped by machine translation, generative AI and automation. The expanded consulting practice pushes the company further upstream into customer decision-making - from simply providing technology and services to advising companies on how those capabilities fit within enterprise-wide transformation programs.
That shift widens the competitive field. AI adoption is blurring the lines between language technology providers, enterprise software companies, systems integrators and management consultancies. Customers increasingly want combinations of software, domain expertise, implementation capabilities and governance rather than stand-alone technology products.
For regulated industries, the consulting expansion could also address the added complexity of enterprise AI deployment. Healthcare, financial services and other sectors must weigh data management, governance and existing technology environments alongside productivity gains. Lawyer's mandate is therefore broader than building a traditional advisory business - it's about aligning consulting with TransPerfect's technology and AI teams to create an integrated approach from AI strategy through implementation.
Why this matters for Executives and Strategy
When you're weighing a transformational AI investment in your own global organization, the job isn't to buy the best point solution - it's to figure out how AI changes your information flows, setup processes and risk profile across jurisdictions. TransPerfect's move argues for evaluating AI adoption as an operating model, not a technology purchase, especially if your company runs on multilingual content or navigates compliance-heavy industries like finance or pharmaceuticals. The company's own consultants for a large global footprint work here - with more than 150 cities on six continents, any transformation program touching multilingual information will increasingly require that kind of reach, and that's exactly the advisor client relationship executives will need to plan around.
