Walmart Opens Its Store to Outside AI Shopping Agents
Walmart is giving third-party AI shopping agents their own profiles with spending limits and approval rules, so customers can control and revoke automated purchases separately from their main account.

Walmart is creating separate profiles for third-party AI shopping agents that operate on behalf of customers. These agent profiles will include configurable approval steps and spending limits, giving account holders direct control over what an outside agent can purchase and when a human must confirm a transaction.
The move establishes explicit identity, budget, and revocation controls for automated purchasing. An agent’s access can be adjusted or shut off without affecting the primary account, which separates machine-driven activity from the customer’s own credentials and payment methods.
Other retailers will need to match this level of permissioning as agentic commerce expands. The design points toward a standard where third-party buying tools carry their own credentials, capped spending authority, and the ability to be revoked at any time.
