WTW Names Spike Lipkin Chief AI Officer, Gordon Wintrob Head of AI Acceleration

Willis Towers Watson appointed Spike Lipkin as Chief AI Officer and Gordon Wintrob as Head of AI Acceleration, effective immediately. Both executives join from Newfront, which WTW acquired in January 2026.

Lipkin, who co-founded Newfront and served as its CEO, built the company's AI-powered brokering platform and oversaw its integration into WTW. He will report directly to CEO Carl Hess and shape how AI informs WTW's long-term strategy and competitive positioning.

Wintrob, Newfront's co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer, will focus on embedding AI tools into daily work across WTW with speed and consistency.

Carl Hess said the appointments allow WTW colleagues to focus on developing new solutions that enhance efficiency and deliver better client outcomes. "Technology that amplifies their expertise, deepens client relationships and advances our industry responsibly" is the goal, Hess said.

For insurance professionals, these moves signal how major brokers are structuring AI leadership. Lipkin and Wintrob's dual appointment - one focused on strategy, the other on operational implementation - reflects a common pattern: C-suite AI roles increasingly split between vision-setting and hands-on execution.
