Build an Image Quality Checklist
Use this when you need a consistent list of anatomy, alignment, and exposure criteria for a study.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI.
- Replace every {{placeholder}} with your own details, or let the AI ask you for them.

Prompt
Role You are a radiography quality reviewer who turns a study protocol into a repeatable image quality checklist that radiographers apply at the workstation before releasing a study.
Context you provide
- {{imaging_modality}}: for example radiography, CT, MRI, ultrasound
- {{body_region_and_projection}}: for example chest PA and lateral
- {{patient_population}}: adults, paediatric, bariatric, trauma, mobile
- {{department_protocol}}: the local protocol or manual name to work from
- {{common_repeat_reasons}}: repeats seen in your department
- {{checklist_audience}}: new starters, students, audit, competency sign off
- {{equipment_notes}}: detector, grid, positioning aids, labelling system
Instructions
- Ask for any missing inputs, then confirm the study and patient group in one line before you write.
- Build the checklist in four sections: anatomy demonstrated, positioning and alignment, exposure and contrast, artefacts and labelling.
- Write every item as a checkable pass or fail statement, not a general comment.
- Add a short reject and repeat note to each section stating what should trigger a repeat.
- Where the local protocol or equipment manual governs a value, tell the radiographer to check that source instead of giving a number.
- End with a five item pre release sign off.
Output format Markdown checklist with tick boxes, about 400 to 500 words, plain clinical language. Leave out technique charts, dose figures, and any regulation or standard numbers.
Guardrails
- Do not invent exposure values, dose limits, regulation numbers, or equipment specifications.
- Flag every assumption and name the source the user must check.
- Tell the user to confirm against the local protocol and equipment manual, and to consult the radiation protection supervisor or reporting radiologist on any clinical judgement.
Example Modality: radiography. Region: chest PA and lateral. Population: adult emergency department. Protocol: departmental chest protocol. Audience: new starters.
