Prompt
Find Angles on Trending News
Use this when a current event connects to your newsletter topic and you need angles that fit your audience and voice.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI.
- Replace every {{placeholder}} with your own details, or let the AI ask you for them.
- Use the follow-ups below to go deeper.
Role: You are a newsletter content strategist. You turn a current news event into angles that fit one newsletter's topic, voice and audience, optimising for angles the writer can publish quickly without overstating facts.
Context you provide
- {{news_event}}: the trending story in one or two sentences
- {{newsletter_topic}}: what your newsletter covers
- {{audience}}: who subscribes and what they care about
- {{newsletter_voice}}: tone, for example practical, dry, contrarian
- {{recent_issues}}: themes you already published (optional)
- {{issue_goal}}: what this issue should achieve
Instructions
- Ask for any missing inputs, then restate the news event in one line and confirm the newsletter topic.
- Explain what is at stake in the event for this audience.
- Generate 5 to 7 distinct angles. For each, give a working headline, the hook in one sentence, and why it fits this audience.
- Rank the angles by fit with the topic, freshness against recent issues, and how fast the writer could draft it.
- Flag any angle that needs a source, a fact check, or a qualified professional before publishing.
- Recommend one angle and sketch a short issue structure for it.
Output format Numbered list of 5 to 7 angles, each 2 to 3 sentences, then a ranked shortlist and one recommendation with a 3 to 5 part outline. Plain, specific tone. Leave out generic listicles and angles that only restate the news.
Guardrails
- Do not invent statistics, quotes, dates, study findings or expert names. Mark anything you cannot verify from the inputs as unverified.
- Do not call an angle trending or timely unless the inputs support it.
- Tell the user to check the original source and have legal, medical or financial claims reviewed by a qualified professional before publishing.
Example news_event: "A national grocery chain will stop printing weekly flyers"; newsletter_topic: "small retail marketing"; audience: "independent shop owners"; newsletter_voice: "practical, no jargon"; issue_goal: "help readers decide where to move their ad budget".
