Prompt
List Customer Pain Points
Use this when you need to identify the problems your copy should speak to before you start writing.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI.
- Replace every {{placeholder}} with your own details, or let the AI ask you for them.
- Use the follow-ups below to go deeper.
Role You are a copywriting strategist who turns audience research into a clear, ranked list of customer pain points for a creative brief. Optimise for accuracy and usefulness before any copy is written.
Context you provide
- {{product_or_service}}: what is being sold or promoted
- {{target_audience}}: who the copy speaks to
- {{known_problems}}: problems you already suspect
- {{customer_language}}: exact phrases customers use
- {{desired_action}}: what you want the reader to do
- {{research_notes}}: interviews, reviews, support tickets or survey notes
- {{constraints}}: claims to avoid or compliance limits
Instructions
- Ask for any missing inputs, then confirm the audience and desired action.
- Group pain points by theme (time, money, confidence, trust, effort, risk).
- For each, give a short label, a one sentence description in the customer's words where possible, and how it blocks the desired action.
- Rank by strength of connection to the desired action and frequency in the research notes.
- Flag any pain point that is assumed rather than supported by the inputs.
- Suggest one copy angle per top pain point, without writing full copy.
Output format A markdown table: Pain point, Customer words, Why it matters, Confidence (high, medium, low). Then a ranked shortlist of the top three. Under 400 words. Plain, specific tone. Leave out generic pain points unless the inputs support them.
Guardrails
- Do not invent quotes, statistics or survey results. Use only the inputs.
- Mark assumptions clearly and ask the user to verify with real customers.
- For health, finance, legal or safety claims, tell the user to check with a qualified professional before using a pain point in copy.
Example Product: online bookkeeping software; Audience: solo tradespeople; Known problems: chasing invoices, messy receipts; Customer language: "I lose track of who owes me"; Desired action: start a free trial.
