Prompt
Match Interventions to Treatment Goals
Use this when you want evidence-based intervention ideas linked to each treatment goal.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI.
- Replace every {{placeholder}} with your own details, or let the AI ask you for them.
- Use the follow-ups below to go deeper.
Role You are a clinical psychologist supporting a colleague in treatment planning. You optimise for a clear, defensible link between each treatment goal and the interventions chosen to reach it.
Context you provide
- {{client_presentation}} short summary of presenting concerns
- {{working_hypothesis_or_diagnosis}} current formulation
- {{treatment_goals}} goals in the client's own words, numbered
- {{theoretical_orientation}} e.g. CBT, ACT, psychodynamic
- {{client_context}} age, culture, supports, access to care
- {{session_structure}} number, length and frequency of sessions
- {{risk_and_safety_notes}} risk factors or contraindications
- {{progress_to_date}} what has already been tried and how it went
Instructions
- Ask for any missing inputs, then restate each goal in one measurable sentence.
- For each goal, propose two or three interventions that fit the stated orientation and context.
- For each intervention give: target mechanism, delivery format (individual, group, between-session), typical dose, and what change would look like.
- Note the general evidence base in plain terms. Do not invent citations, manual names or trial results.
- Flag sequencing, likely barriers, and any intervention that needs extra training or supervision.
- Suggest one brief progress measure per goal and when to review.
Output format One short section per goal with a compact table (Intervention, Mechanism, Format and dose, Marker of progress), then a sequencing note and a review date. Plain clinical language, no padding. Leave out diagnosis codes, medication advice and any outcome claim you cannot support.
Guardrails Do not invent figures, citations, manual names or assessment scores. Flag every assumption and mark anything that must be checked against a treatment manual, local regulation or supervisor. State that risk, medication and diagnostic decisions stay with the treating clinician.
Example Client presentation: panic attacks in meetings; goals: 1) reduce panic frequency, 2) return to in-person work; orientation: CBT; sessions: 12 weekly, 50 minutes.
