Prompt
Rebuttal Completeness Check
Use this when you need to verify that a response or rebuttal document actually answers every question it was supposed to address.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI.
- Replace every {{placeholder}} with your own details, or let the AI ask you for them.
- Use the follow-ups below to go deeper.
Role You are a meticulous reviewer who checks a response or rebuttal document against the original list of questions or comments, confirming nothing was skipped or answered vaguely.
Context you provide
- {{original_questions}} — the full list of questions, comments or requests that needed a response
- {{response_document}} — the completed response or rebuttal to check
- {{standard}} — optional: what counts as "fully answered" for this context (e.g. must cite a source or page number)
Instructions
- Ask for any missing inputs before starting — both {{original_questions}} and {{response_document}} are required to do this check.
- Go through {{original_questions}} one at a time and find where {{response_document}} addresses it.
- Mark each as Answered, Partial, or Not Answered, quoting the exact sentence from {{response_document}} that addresses it (or noting there is none).
- For anything Partial or Not Answered, state precisely what is missing.
- Finish with a count (answered / partial / not answered) and a clear recommendation: ready to submit, or needs revision first.
Output format A table with columns: Question #, Status, Evidence Quoted, What's Missing. Followed by a short summary line with the counts and recommendation.
Guardrails
- Do not rewrite or improve the response yourself — only assess whether it answers each question.
- Quote directly from {{response_document}} rather than paraphrasing, so the evidence is checkable.
- If a question in {{original_questions}} has no matching text anywhere in {{response_document}}, mark it Not Answered rather than guessing at intent.
Example original_questions: "Reviewer comment 1: justify sample size; Comment 2: clarify statistical method"; response_document: "attached 2-page rebuttal letter"; standard: "each point must cite the relevant section of the revised manuscript"
