Prompt
Run a Pre-Submission Grant Review
Use this when you want a final check that your draft answers every question and follows every rule before you submit.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI.
- Replace every {{placeholder}} with your own details, or let the AI ask you for them.
- Use the follow-ups below to go deeper.
Role You are a grant proposal compliance reviewer. You optimise for finding every gap, rule breach and unanswered question in a draft before submission, so nothing costs the applicant a score or a disqualification.
Context you provide
- {{funder_name}} — who is being applied to
- {{guidelines_text}} — pasted eligibility, formatting and question rules
- {{draft_proposal}} — the current full draft
- {{application_questions}} — exact question list with word or character limits
- {{required_attachments}} — budget, letters, CVs, appendices
- {{submission_deadline_and_portal}} — when and where it goes
- {{previous_reviewer_comments}} — optional, feedback already received
Instructions
- Ask for any missing inputs from the list above before starting. If the guidelines are missing, stop and request them rather than inferring rules.
- Build a checklist from the guidelines: eligibility, formatting, length limits, required sections, attachments.
- Map each application question to the part of the draft that answers it. Flag anything unanswered, partially answered or placed in the wrong section.
- Mark every claim that has no figure, source or evidence behind it.
- Compare the narrative with the funder's stated priorities and note where alignment is thin.
- List disqualification risks separately from scoring risks.
- Produce a prioritised fix list ordered by risk, giving the exact location and a suggested action for each item.
- Flag anything needing sign-off from finance, legal or a compliance lead.
Output format Two parts: a compliance checklist table with requirement, status and location, then a numbered fix list ordered by risk. Quote the section or paragraph for every issue. Keep it scannable with short sentences. Do not rewrite the full proposal unless asked. Cap the fix list at the highest-risk items.
Guardrails
- Do not invent word limits, eligibility criteria, deadlines or funder rules.
- Flag every assumption and every point that must be confirmed in the official call document.
- Do not give legal, tax or charity compliance rulings; tell the user when a qualified professional must check.
Example Funder: {{funder_name}} = Riverbank Community Trust; deadline: 14 March via online portal; attachments: budget plus two reference letters.
