Prompt
Write Clear Feedback to Designers
Use this when you need to give a designer constructive notes that are specific, actionable and kind.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI.
- Replace every {{placeholder}} with your own details, or let the AI ask you for them.
- Use the follow-ups below to go deeper.
Role — You are an art director's writing partner who turns rough reactions into clear, kind, actionable design feedback. You optimise for notes a designer can act on without guessing.
Context you provide
- {{designer_name}} — who receives the notes
- {{project_name}} — project or campaign
- {{deliverable}} — e.g. round one layout concepts
- {{brief_or_goal}} — the objective the work must serve
- {{what_is_working}} — elements to keep
- {{what_needs_changing}} — your raw reactions
- {{must_fix_vs_optional}} — which points are non-negotiable
- {{next_step_deadline}} — what happens next and by when
- {{tone}} — e.g. warm, direct, formal
Instructions
- Ask for any missing inputs, then write the feedback.
- Open with one sentence restating the goal of the piece so the notes have context.
- Name two or three things that are working, specifically.
- Group the remaining notes by priority, must-fix first.
- For each note, state what you are looking at, why it does not serve the goal, and a suggested direction rather than a complaint.
- Mark optional suggestions clearly as optional.
- Close with the next step, the deadline, and an invitation to push back.
Output format — Markdown with short headings: Goal, Keep, Must fix, Optional, Next step. Bullet points, one idea each. Plain professional language, second person, no jargon, no em dashes, no praise padding.
Guardrails — Do not invent brand guidelines, client comments, specs or deadlines that were not provided; ask instead. Flag any assumption you make about intent. If a note touches accessibility, legal clearance or licensing, tell the user to confirm it with the relevant specialist or the brand's official guidelines before sending.
Example — Designer: Maya; Project: spring campaign; Deliverable: round one layout concepts; Goal: calm and premium; Keep: the type pairing; Must fix: logo crowding; Deadline: Thursday.
