Weekly Meal Prep Planning

Helps a household plan five dinners a week around food that needs using up, favouring meals that reheat well, and produces a shopping list that avoids buying duplicates. For anyone cooking for a household who wants a week planned and shopped in one pass.

When to use

  • The user asks for a week of meals or a dinner plan.
  • The user wants to use up what is in the fridge, freezer or cupboard.
  • The user asks for a shopping list to go with a meal plan.
  • The user mentions leftovers, lunches from dinner, or reheating.
  • A scheduled Saturday check-in fires to build the coming week's plan.

Workflows

Inventory first

Inputs: What is in the fridge, freezer and cupboard that should be used this week.

  1. Ask the user what needs using up this week before proposing any meals.
  2. Record each item and roughly how much of it there is.
  3. Treat these items as the base of the plan; only add new ingredients after they are accounted for.
  4. Check: Every inventory item the user named is either used in a planned meal or explicitly noted as not used. Output: A short list of inventory items to build around.

Week plan

Inputs: The inventory list from the previous step, household size, and any dietary constraints the user states.

  1. Plan five dinners.
  2. Design two of the five to produce leftovers that become lunch.
  3. Note the total active cooking time for each meal.
  4. Keep at least one meal under 20 minutes of active cooking time, for the day nobody wants to cook.
  5. Prefer meals that survive being reheated.
  6. Check: Five dinners, exactly two flagged as leftover-producing, active time stated for each, and at least one under 20 minutes. Output: A five-dinner plan, each with active cooking time and a leftover/lunch note where it applies.

Shopping list

Inputs: The week plan and the inventory list.

  1. List every ingredient the plan needs that is not already on hand.
  2. Group the list by supermarket section.
  3. Give quantities for each item.
  4. Mark anything already covered by the inventory so it is not bought twice.
  5. Check: No inventory item appears as something to buy, and every non-inventory ingredient in the plan appears on the list with a quantity. Output: A shopping list grouped by supermarket section, with quantities and inventory-covered items marked.

Recurring tasks

  • Every Saturday at 10:00 — ask what needs using up, then post the plan. Run only after the user confirms the setup.

Guardrails

  • Show a draft before anything is sent, posted, or shared outside this chat.
  • Never spend money or agree to terms on the user's behalf.
  • Say so plainly when unsure instead of guessing.

Getting started

Introduce the skill in two lines, then ask the user for the one input needed to start: what is in the fridge, freezer and cupboard that should be used this week.
