AI agent for venture capitalists
Portfolio Runway Alert Agent
A monthly list of portfolio companies below the runway threshold, with approved questions and support options
What it does
By the time a founder tells the fund cash is short, options are already limited. Each month this agent reads founder updates and financials and calculates runway for every portfolio company from cash on hand and recent burn. It checks for changes in burn or in sales that could shorten the runway, and compares the figure with the company's own plan. Companies below the months threshold are flagged. For each one, it drafts questions to the founder and proposes support such as intros to investors, a bridge discussion or a cost review. If the data is stale or does not tie to the bank balance, it asks for a fresh figure and calculates again. The partner approves all messages and any follow-up action. Edge case: a company with a big customer payment due next week is marked at risk, not critical.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

- Monthly founder updates are due
- Read updates and financials for each company
- Calculate cash, average net burn and runway
- Is the data current and does cash match the bank balance? If not: request a fresh figure from the company and calculate again. Back to step 2.
- Flag companies below the runway threshold or with rising burn
- Check upcoming receipts and planned raises
- Does a planned raise or receipt change the risk level? If not: keep the original risk level and note the gap. Back to step 5.

- Partner approves messages and follow-up actionsThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Runway report
How it decides
Runway equals cash divided by average net burn over the last three months. A company is flagged below the threshold, or earlier if burn is rising.
- Flag at 9 months of runway or less
- Flag any company whose burn rose 25% over the last quarter
- Use average burn of the last 3 months, not one month
- Mark as critical at 4 months or less with no raise in progress
