adesso acquires Berlin AI startup omni:us to embed claims intelligence into core insurance systems

Dortmund-based adesso has acquired omni:us, a Berlin startup specializing in AI-powered insurance claims processing. The deal combines adesso's core insurance platform, in|sure Ecosphere, with omni:us's production-grade AI technology for claims automation.

adesso plans to integrate omni:us technology into its core insurance systems portfolio. The omni:us team will continue developing its products under the same brand within the adesso Group, and existing customers will retain support within their current environments.

"Artificial intelligence does not become part of the insurance core simply by adding another application alongside existing systems. It has to be connected to the systems, data and control mechanisms insurers use to run their business. With omni:us, we are gaining proven, production-grade AI for claims together with the specialised expertise required to embed intelligence directly into the core insurance landscape," said Andreas Nolte, Managing Director Insurance Business Solutions at adesso.

The deal in context

adesso, founded in Dortmund in 1997, reported €1.3 billion in revenue for 2024 and employs more than 11,100 people across over 65 locations. Its in|sure Ecosphere platform covers core insurance processes across property and casualty, health, life insurance, and retirement solutions.

omni:us was founded in 2015 and provides end-to-end claims automation for standardized cases plus an agentic co-pilot for complex claims. The company says its technology analyzes claims information, applies insurance-specific logic, and generates traceable outputs that integrate into existing core system environments. It closed a Series A round led by Target Global in 2018.

The acquisition expands adesso's proprietary software share in its insurance portfolio and gives its customers access to AI-powered claims processing. omni:us gains adesso's market presence, integration capabilities, and implementation scale.

Why the deal targets core AI integration

The joint product strategy addresses two market demands: specialized AI capabilities embedded directly into insurance products and workflow solutions, and a controlled agentic layer where insurers can develop, integrate, and operate their own or third-party AI agents.

The companies say this strategy will stay aligned with regulatory requirements for insurance processes, including explainability, human oversight, operational reliability, data protection, information security, and traceability.

This focus on accountable AI matters for insurance professionals working with claims automation tools, because it addresses the gap between standalone AI pilots and systems that can operate under real financial and regulatory conditions. If your team applies AI for Insurance workflows, the integration pattern here shows how claims automation is moving from specialized tools into the systems insurers already run.

Why this matters for insurance professionals

The acquisition signals that AI claims processing is becoming a core systems component rather than a bolt-on application. For insurers evaluating claims automation, the relevant question is not whether the AI model works, but whether it can map to existing control mechanisms and data infrastructure. omni:us's emphasis on traceable outputs and human oversight reflects what regulated insurance environments require at deployment.

Professionals tracking tooling for AI for Customer Support will see similar patterns here, as the agentic co-pilot approach for complex claims fits a broader trend of human-plus-AI workflows.
