ADP expands AWS partnership to accelerate AI-powered HCM innovation

ADP has named Amazon Web Services its primary infrastructure partner in an expanded agreement focused on bringing generative and agentic AI to its human capital management products. The deal, announced September 14, 2026, extends years of collaboration and will underpin ADP's platform serving more than 1.1 million clients across 140 countries and territories.

The partnership centers on four areas: migrating ADP's core applications to AWS, scaling ADP Assist agents, powering the Lyric HCM platform, and building an intelligence layer from ADP's workforce data. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Platform migration and agentic AI

ADP is using agentic services including AWS Transform and AWS Kiro to move thousands of critical applications-including tax and payroll systems-to the cloud. The migration gives ADP a foundation to deploy new AI capabilities faster while keeping enterprise security and compliance standards across geographies.

ADP Assist agents, built on Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore, serve as purpose-built assistants for employees, managers, and HR and payroll practitioners. The agents automate routine processes, spot and correct payroll anomalies, answer complex questions, and generate reports, all under human oversight.

Lyric HCM and workforce data

AWS cloud and AI technology also powers ADP's Lyric HCM platform, which unifies global HR, payroll, talent, and workforce management. Through the collaboration, ADP implemented a generative AI-driven client onboarding process that cut certain critical steps by more than 50%.

ADP is also turning its workforce dataset-spanning 42 million wage earners worldwide and informed by 77 years of HR, payroll, and compliance expertise-into an intelligence foundation. That data layer supports AI capabilities including ADP Assist and its AI agents.

Scott Liska, vice president at AWS, said the combination of ADP's payroll and HR expertise with AWS cloud and AI capabilities "gives companies a smarter and more efficient way to manage their people and orchestrate work across the employee lifecycle."

Sreeni Kutam, president of global product and innovation at ADP, said: "AI is transforming how work gets done, but it also increases the complexity of managing a global workforce. Organisations need trusted partners that can combine advanced AI with deep domain expertise."

The expanded agreement builds on ADP's work with the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center, a team of strategists and scientists that helps companies design, build, and launch generative and agentic AI solutions. For HR professionals tracking how AI reshapes core systems, this type of vendor alignment is relevant to AI for Human Resources training and upskilling decisions. HR leaders evaluating their own AI strategy may also find value in the AI Learning Path for CHROs.

Why this matters for HR professionals

ADP processes payroll for a large share of the global workforce, so where it invests signals where HR technology is heading. The shift toward agentic AI-systems that can act on payroll and HR tasks with human oversight-means HR practitioners will increasingly manage AI assistants rather than perform routine data entry and error correction themselves. Understanding how these tools work, what they can and cannot do, and where human judgment remains essential will become a core competency for HR teams in the next few years.
