The Agentic AI Foundation added 57 new member organizations over the past quarter, bringing total membership to 247 organizations worldwide. New gold members include Alibaba, Visa, and Wells Fargo, signaling that major financial institutions are investing in open standards for agentic AI infrastructure.
The foundation announced the new members Monday at the MCP Dev Summit in Seoul. The additions span three membership tiers: three Gold, 33 Silver, and 21 Associate members. The influx includes significant participation from financial services companies and Asia-Pacific technology leaders.
Why big banks and payments firms are joining
Visa and Wells Fargo join as Gold members alongside Alibaba. Visa's role in global digital payments and Wells Fargo's position as a top U.S. bank with $2.3 trillion in assets reflect a broader push to standardize how AI agents operate in compliance-heavy industries like payments, banking, and supply chains.
"Top financial institutions like Visa and Wells Fargo recognize that building agents at scale requires neutral infrastructure they can depend on," said Mazin Gilbert, executive director of the Agentic AI Foundation.
The foundation's MCP protocol and related open-source projects provide the core standards for making agents interoperable across platforms. For finance professionals, that means agents handling payments verification, fraud detection, or customer service could eventually communicate reliably across banks and payment networks without each company building its own system.
New gold members in detail
Alibaba Group joins as a Gold Member, bringing its work in cloud computing, AI research, and open-source models. Zeming Wu, Alibaba's group chief technology officer, said the company is "committed to contributing our expertise in large-scale AI systems, open-source models, and cloud computing to make powerful AI capabilities available to developers and enterprises of all sizes, across all regions."
Visa and Wells Fargo both emphasized trust and interoperability. Rubail Birwadker, Visa's global head of growth, said "building a foundation of trust, interoperability, and collaboration is essential to the continued growth of agentic commerce." Chintan Mehta, Wells Fargo's CIO and head of digital technology and innovation, said the bank wants to contribute to "practical approaches that drive innovation while supporting trust and responsible adoption."
The full membership expansion
New Silver Members include Asana, Boomi, Postman, and Pulumi alongside financial-sector firms like Bread Financial and South Korea's NHN KCP, Coocon, and Galaxia Moneytree. New Associate Members include researchers from CERN and Stanford University.
The AAIF's upcoming events in Japan and China this September will continue to build the ecosystem across the APAC region, where developer momentum has been increasing for interoperable agent standards.
Why this matters for Finance pros
For professionals in banking, payments, and insurance, the push for open agentic standards directly affects the reliability and security of the AI-powered systems that will handle money movement, compliance checks, and customer interactions. Without a shared infrastructure, each bank builds their own agent - creating costly fragmentation and integration failures. The inclusion of Visa, Wells Fargo, and Alibaba at the steering level means working professionals can pay attention to the standards being set. These standards will determine which agents can talk to which systems, how data privacy is enforced across institutions, and whether your own bank will be building or buying its agentic capabilities.
