An AI "actor" named Tilly Norwood will headline a feature film from London-based company Particle 6, a move that writer Taffy Brodesser-Akner called "a marketing gag." The stunt is generating buzz in Hollywood and among marketers testing how far synthetic media can go-and how much of the workforce it might replace.

Brodesser-Akner profiled Tilly and its creator for The New York Times Magazine earlier this year. "Unless you're a terrible actor, you have nothing to worry about," she said, downplaying the immediate threat to lead roles. But she noted that background actors and extras could see work dry up as studios turn to cheaper AI alternatives.

The use of AI-generated figures in advertising is already a reality, with brands tapping AI for Marketing to create virtual influencers and product spokespeople. Particle 6, the London-based AI production company behind Tilly, is among the startups pushing this technology.

John Early's melodrama homage

In a separate project, comedian John Early stars as a female food content creator in the film Maddie's Secret, a parody of schmaltzy TV movies. Early said he wanted to explore the secret world of female friends who developed eating disorders-a boundary he couldn't cross as a boy. The film is a content experiment that blurs gender and genre, with lessons for content marketers about authenticity and self-referential storytelling.

Cafe Gratitude's radical rebrand

The family behind California vegan chain Cafe Gratitude has abandoned the brand entirely. Mollie Englehart, daughter of the co-founders, now runs a cattle ranch in Texas, promotes conspiracy theories, and gave up food for Lent, according to journalist Lydia Horne. The rebrand-from plant-based affirmations to MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) meat-eating-is a startling case study in a brand's complete rejection of its own identity.

Why this matters for marketers

For marketing professionals, Tilly Norwood is a reminder that AI-generated personas can manufacture buzz but may struggle to sustain authentic engagement. Cafe Gratitude's pivot shows how a radical rebrand can alienate a loyal customer base while attracting a new one-a high-risk strategy. And John Early's film underscores the value of self-aware content that plays with audience expectations. The common thread: novelty grabs attention, but trust and relevance keep it.
