AI in Insurance: Insights and Implementation

Insly, a low-code software provider for the insurance industry, launched a new report on AI adoption in insurance at The BIBA Conference 2025. The report examines how AI is progressing across the sector, highlights promising use cases, and offers guidance on overcoming barriers to successful implementation and return on investment.

Since the release of ChatGPT two years ago, insurers and managing general agents (MGAs) have been eager to capture the productivity benefits of generative AI and other technologies like optical character recognition, large language models, and machine learning. Despite experimentation and early adopters, many companies remain uncertain about how to apply AI effectively to boost their bottom line. A Boston Consulting Group study found that 74% of companies struggle to scale value from AI initiatives.

“Everyone’s scrambling to figure out how to ‘leverage AI’ for their business, especially after reading that all their competitors are already pros at it (spoiler: they aren’t),” says Risto Rossar, CEO of Insly. “This leads to a fair bit of panic and, let’s be honest, some questionable investments.”

What the Report Covers

  • AI, the Real Benefits for Insurance: How AI drives speed, efficiency, innovation, customer experience, and decision-making improvements.
  • AI Across the Insurance Lifecycle: Key use cases where AI transforms processes, boosts efficiency, and supports growth.
  • Risk Management: Strategies for addressing trust, privacy, security, change management, integration, and data challenges.
  • Maximising ROI: Practical advice on ensuring AI investments deliver measurable value while managing risk.

Rossar adds, “Implementing AI can seem intimidating for MGAs and insurers, but it doesn’t have to be. By starting with small, well-defined use cases and building adoption gradually, any company can begin experiencing benefits faster than expected and prepare for an AI-driven future.”
