Alcatel-Lucent has released a new version of its OmniVista network management platform that embeds an AI virtual assistant capable of understanding plain-language instructions. The update, announced September 17, gives network operations teams a faster way to diagnose problems and execute routine tasks while keeping every automated action gated behind human approval.
The AI assistant is available across both deployment models: OmniVista Cirrus in the cloud and OmniVista Terra on premises. Organizations can switch between the two without retraining staff, which matters for teams with strict data sovereignty or compliance requirements.
How the AI assistant works
Administrators can ask questions like "how has this switch performed today?" or "why are users at x site complaining?" and receive a sourced answer within seconds. When an issue escalates to the IT team, it arrives with a root cause and a recommended fix already attached. Security foundations - Network Access Control, Zero-Trust policies, and IoT protection - remain built in by default.
Interface and operational updates
The release also brings a redesigned interface with simplified navigation. Onboarding time for new team members has been shortened, and Wi-Fi client density heatmaps have been improved for capacity planning. The platform now supports six languages: English, French, Chinese, Japanese, German, and Spanish.
On the operational side, OmniVista now manages OmniAccess Stellar, OmniSwitch, and third-party hardware from a single console. It scales to 25,000 devices and uses an API-first architecture to integrate with existing IT stacks. Access control has been strengthened with automatic device and user verification, role-based enforcement, and easier connections to existing identity systems. The platform also consolidates network and PBX phone management.
