Alpha Story, a Singapore-founded communications firm, has launched an AI-powered marketing communications platform in Indonesia, targeting the country's 64 million micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with affordable brand-building and media relations tools. The push targets a sector that accounts for roughly 99% of businesses and 60.5% of the country's GDP yet remains largely underserved by traditional PR agencies.
The company has opened a Central Jakarta office and operates as an affiliate of outdoor advertising firm 8Infini. Alpha Story said the launch responds to growing competition for visibility in crowded digital spaces and AI-driven discovery environments, where many MSMEs lack the budgets or know-how to secure professional communications support.
The MSME opportunity
"Indonesia's MSMEs are not small in importance. They are the foundation of the economy," said Jeremy Foo, CEO of Alpha Story. "But for too long, professional PR and strategic comms have been treated as services only larger companies can afford. We believe there is a major opportunity to use AI, better process design, and more accessible pricing to help MSMEs tell stronger stories and compete more effectively."
For PR and communications teams watching how technology reshapes their discipline, AI for PR & Communications tracks the tools and strategies that are closing that gap.
Services built for smaller budgets
Alpha Story's Indonesian offering includes press release development, campaign positioning, media outreach and reporting, along with guaranteed media placement packages designed to replace lengthy retainer commitments. "This structure is intended to give MSMEs, startups, founder-led companies, and growth-stage brands a more practical path into PR without requiring long retainers or heavy upfront commitments," Foo said. "Businesses can share their story, receive support on press release creation and positioning, secure media coverage, and review post-campaign reports."
Brand intelligence via Alpha Echo
The firm is also introducing Indonesian clients to Alpha Echo, its proprietary AI-powered brand intelligence platform. The tool tracks brand perception, benchmarks competitors and analyzes visibility across media outlets, social channels, search engines and AI-powered discovery platforms. It converts signals from coverage, social conversations, industry trends and owned content into recommendations that communications teams can apply to positioning, thought leadership, content strategy, search engine optimization (SEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO).
Closing the visibility gap
Leighton Cosseboom, Alpha Story's Indonesia country lead, said many MSMEs struggle not because of product quality but because they remain under the radar. "The issue for many Indonesian MSMEs is not that they lack good products, strong founders, or meaningful customer value. The issue is that they are often under-discovered and under-explained. They need to be found, understood, and trusted. Alpha Story Indonesia is built to help close that visibility gap."
Alpha Story argues that most communications providers still treat PR, digital marketing, media monitoring, reporting and strategy as separate disciplines. Its model combines those functions in a single technology-enabled platform, an approach Cosseboom sees as relevant in a market where millions of businesses want cost-effective ways to build credibility and reach new audiences.
The company, which says it has served more than 2,000 clients across Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, counts entities such as Audi, Volkswagen, Agoda, University of Reading, Vietjet, UOL Group, AXS and SEMICON Southeast Asia among its roster.
Why this matters for PR and Communications professionals
Alpha Story's move signals a continued shift toward AI-driven, integrated PR services that can scale down to serve smaller clients-a segment historically ignored by large agencies. For practitioners, the launch underscores the need to build skills in AI-powered media monitoring, brand intelligence and automated reporting. An AI Learning Path for Public Relations Specialists offers structured upskilling in these exact areas. At the same time, the focus on MSMEs opens a massive, underserved market. PR professionals and agency leaders who understand how to pair technology with affordable, execution-focused packages can position themselves for growth in similar economies across the region.
