Amazon doubles AI education investment to $800K

Amazon is expanding its support for AI education with a new $800,000 commitment, more than doubling its initial pilot. The investment widens access to the White House Presidential AI Challenge through the Amazon Future Engineer program, following strong interest from school districts and partner organizations.

What's new

  • Funding expanded to $800,000 to meet demand.
  • Support now includes 18 educational partners across seven U.S. regions.
  • Partners range from large public districts and charter networks to individual schools and a state-level education service center.

What participating schools get

  • Intro and AP Computer Science courses funded in 2,000+ high schools that collectively serve 100,000+ students in underserved and underrepresented communities.
  • Preparatory lessons, tutorials, professional development for teachers, and a digital curriculum for students.
  • Live online support for both teachers and students.
  • No-cost membership to AWS Educate for all participating educators and students.
  • Through a collaboration with PlayLab, access to custom AI tools for classrooms plus hands-on training to implement them.

Why this matters for educators

"The strong response from school districts showed us how many educators are ready to bring AI into the classroom to help students build skills for the future," said Bettina Stix, Amazon global director of community impact. "By expanding this program, we're helping nearly half a million students access AI education while supporting teachers as they integrate these tools into daily learning."

"Together with Amazon, we're meeting districts where they are," said Hilah Barbot, head of strategic partnerships at PlayLab. "It gives educators and students the space to experiment with AI in meaningful ways, building skills that are relevant today while preparing for what's next."

Broader commitment and scale

This initiative supports Amazon's commitment to the White House Pledge to America's Youth. By 2028, the company plans to support AI skills training for 4 million U.S. learners and enable AI curricula for 10,000 educators, including up to $30 million in AWS promotional credits and $1.5 million in cash prizes for student winners of the Presidential AI Challenge.

How schools and teachers can act now

  • Confirm whether your district or school is part of the Amazon Future Engineer partner list and identify your internal point of contact for the Presidential AI Challenge.
  • Set up your AWS Educate accounts to access cloud learning resources and student-ready content.
  • Coordinate with your curriculum lead to align CS and AI activities with AP CS and state standards; use the provided preparatory lessons and tutorials.
  • Schedule the included professional development and plan classroom pilots for PlayLab's AI tools with clear goals (skill targets, class routines, student privacy guidelines).
  • Track outcomes: enrollment, completion, assessment growth, and teacher feedback to secure ongoing support and scale to more classrooms.
