AI is giving small businesses the creative tools once reserved for big brands

Seventy-four percent of marketers now say AI is very important to their success over the next 12 months, according to the Marketing AI Institute's 2025 State of Marketing AI Report. That's up eight percentage points from 2024.

The shift is changing how ads get made. What once required weeks of production planning-specialized teams, big budgets, long approval cycles-now happens in minutes. Small businesses that once relied on simple product shots can now transform those images into lifestyle scenes, convert product pages into audio ads, and develop concepts into full TV commercials with a single prompt.

Speed isn't the main story

Faster production matters less than what it enables: creative capability for everyone. Mom-and-pop shops can now compete for attention in ways once reserved for Fortune 500 companies.

By the end of 2024, nearly one in five Amazon sellers were using AI-powered creative tools, with the majority being small businesses. These tools handle the heavy lifting-brainstorming, script development, scene planning, voice selection, and final production-freeing teams to focus on big ideas instead of administrative work.

Molly's Suds, a small brand, created a streaming TV ad without a storyboard, agency brief, or production crew. Instead, they used an AI tool that analyzed their product images, copy, reviews, and brand details to understand their tone and visual style. The tool then guided them through the entire creative process from concept to finished video.

The business case is real

McKinsey's State of AI in 2025 report shows that revenue gains from AI appear most commonly in marketing and sales. Broader access to creative capabilities translates into measurable business outcomes.

When more businesses can tell their stories effectively, the entire advertising ecosystem benefits. Fresh perspectives and diverse voices from smaller brands make advertising richer for everyone.

The result is a more level playing field. Imagination becomes the most valuable currency. Any brand with a great idea and a great story now has a real chance to be heard.
