Pinterest launches AI beauty guides that turn saved pins into salon plans

Pinterest launched Beauty Guides, an AI tool that turns saved Pins into salon-ready plans with professional terms, cost estimates, and maintenance tips-balayage can run into the hundreds of dollars.

Pinterest launched Beauty Guides on Tuesday, an AI feature that translates saved beauty Pins into practical salon-ready action plans. The tool converts user-friendly terms like "soft blonde highlights" into professional jargon such as "balayage" or "root melt," while also surfacing estimated time, cost ranges, and maintenance tips. For professionals in client-facing creative fields, the feature bridges a persistent gap between visual inspiration and executable service briefs.

Powered by Pinterest Intelligence, the company's proprietary AI system, Beauty Guides currently covers hairstyle, color, nail shape, and finish categories. Users trigger the feature by tapping "Get the Guide" on a saved Pin. The tool then generates a breakdown that includes the professional terminology a stylist would use, along with practical details like how long the service typically takes and what it might cost-a balayage, for instance, can run into the hundreds of dollars.

How the feature works

The AI analyzes images users have already saved to their boards and extracts the visual attributes that define a particular look. It then maps those attributes to industry-standard vocabulary. A user who saves a photo of wavy, caramel-toned hair gets a guide that mentions "face-framing layers" and "warm balayage" rather than generic descriptions. Pinterest said no subscription or additional cost is required to use the feature.

The guides also include maintenance recommendations. A pastel hair color guide might note that the shade requires toning every four to six weeks, while a set of almond-shaped acrylic nails could come with advice on fill schedules. This level of detail turns a mood board into something closer to a consultation prep document.

Pinterest's AI strategy in context

The launch reflects Pinterest's broader push to embed AI into everyday user workflows rather than treating it as a standalone chatbot or sidebar tool. Beauty Guides addresses a specific planning gap: people often arrive at salons with reference images but lack the vocabulary to describe what they want accurately. The mismatch can lead to costly misunderstandings.

The feature remains limited to visual inspiration users have already saved. It does not generate new ideas or recommend styles-it only works with existing Pins. Pinterest did not provide details on geographic availability or whether the feature will expand to other categories like makeup or skincare.

Why this matters for creatives, marketers, and sales professionals

For marketing and product development teams in beauty, hospitality, or events, Beauty Guides signals a shift in how consumers prepare for service purchases. A client walking into a salon with a Pinterest-generated guide has already internalized cost expectations, time commitments, and professional terminology. Sales teams can use this readiness to shorten consultation time and reduce the back-and-forth that often bogs down booking. Event planners and stylists working with talent can pull guides for specific looks and share them directly with hair and makeup teams, creating a shared reference point that uses the same language professionals speak.
