Amazon launches AI Seller Assistant in India to help merchants manage listings, inventory and cross-border expansion
Amazon is rolling out an AI Seller Assistant to 1.7 million sellers in India to automate listing tasks. It has already reduced operational effort by nearly 70 percent.

Amazon is rolling out an AI-powered Seller Assistant to its 1.7 million sellers in India, designed to automate routine tasks like catalog creation, inventory management, and cross-border compliance. The phased rollout, which began after the Smbhav 2025 event, seeks to reduce manual operational effort and cut listing errors ahead of the company's July Prime Day event.
Core capabilities and infrastructure
The 24/7 chatbot, integrated directly into Seller Central, is built on Amazon Bedrock and uses Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude models. It pre-fills up to 70 percent of product listing fields from a single image or URL and suggests image enhancements. For inventory management, machine learning models generate restocking recommendations that tie directly into Amazon's fulfillment network.
"We've already reached a stage where the operational effort required from sellers has fallen by nearly 70 percent," said Abhijit Kamra, director of seller experience for emerging markets. "At the same time, listing errors, which happen due to manual processes, have declined by around 10 percent."
Supporting international sales
Ahead of Prime Day, Amazon added new capabilities to the tool to assist merchants with international sales. The assistant provides demand insights and market-level guidance to identify export opportunities. It also tracks country-specific compliance requirements, including documentation and regulatory checks, step-by-step.
To drive adoption, Amazon India launched Seller Connect training programs in over 20 cities. More than 5,000 sellers have attended sessions focused on catalog creation, inventory management, and fulfillment operations. Kamra said the company is watching closely to see how these tools perform during high-volume shopping events.
Industry shift toward merchant automation
Ecommerce platforms across India are embedding generative AI into seller workflows to reduce friction in listing, advertising, and inventory management. Competitors like Flipkart and Snapdeal have introduced their own AI seller tools, while Meesho focuses on voice AI and personalized discovery.
This operational shift targets a market projected to reach $300 billion by 2030, with MSMEs serving as the primary growth engine. By lowering the cost of running an online business, Amazon expects sellers to grow more efficiently and potentially pass savings to customers.
Why this matters for operations professionals
Operations managers in retail and ecommerce must evaluate how generative AI can automate high-volume, repetitive tasks like catalog generation and compliance tracking. As platforms integrate these capabilities, internal teams should focus on refining prompt engineering and validating AI-generated outputs rather than manually building listings. Professionals looking to understand how AI process optimization and supply chain automation apply to their daily workflows can explore an AI Learning Path for Operations Managers to bridge the technical and operational gap.
