Amentum Names Chief AI Architect to Lead Enterprise Integration
Amentum, the Chantilly-based government contractor, has created a chief AI architect position and named Sam Nazari to the role. Nazari will oversee AI integration across the company's defense, intelligence, energy, space and commercial operations.
The position combines two responsibilities: building AI capabilities for customers and automating internal operations. Nazari will also ensure all AI deployments comply with Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and client standards.
Nazari previously led AI initiatives at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Pentagon's research and development arm. He also held roles at Scientific Systems Co. and Systems & Technology Research, where he worked on AI and machine learning projects for the Department of Defense.
Amentum Chief Technology Officer Jill Bruning said Nazari's background positions him to "strategically drive results-focused AI solutions that empower our customers to tackle their most complex challenges."
Nazari holds a master's degree and doctorate in electrical engineering from Northeastern University.
Amentum reported $14.4 billion in fiscal 2025 revenue and employs about 50,000 people across more than 70 countries. The company spun off from AECOM's Management Services Group in 2020 and relocated its headquarters to Chantilly in 2023.
