Anthropic Launches Claude Design to Compete With Adobe and Figma

Anthropic unveiled Claude Design on Thursday, an AI tool that generates marketing assets, presentation decks, and user interfaces from text descriptions. The product runs on Claude Opus 4.7, the company's latest model, and targets both experienced designers and nontechnical users who need to produce visual work quickly.

The launch puts Anthropic in direct competition with Adobe and Figma, which have invested heavily in AI-powered design features over the past year. Claude Design differentiates itself by accepting natural language prompts, design files, code references, and website captures as input.

How It Works

Users start by uploading reference materials-design files, codebases, or brand guidelines-which Claude Design uses to build a design system. This system enforces consistent colors, typography, and styling across projects.

From there, marketers and designers can request changes through chat, inline comments, or custom sliders that let them adjust images and data in real time. Claude Design produces outputs that can be edited directly or exported in multiple formats.

The tool can generate product mockups, wireframes, pitch decks, social media content, webpages, and campaign visuals. It also handles more complex work: voice interactions, video elements, 3D visuals, and special effects without requiring manual coding.

Early Adoption Shows Speed Gains

Claude Design is in research beta with Canva, Datadog, and Brilliant. At Datadog, the tool compressed design cycles significantly. Work that previously took a week of back-and-forth between briefs, mockups, and reviews now happens in a single conversation, according to Datadog product manager Aneesh Kethini.

"We've gone from a rough idea to a working prototype before anyone leaves the room, and the output stays true to our brand and design guidelines," Kethini said.

Canva, despite offering its own AI visual generation tools, is integrating Claude Design into its platform. CEO Melanie Perkins said the partnership will let users move drafts from Claude Design into Canva as fully editable, collaborative designs.

Who Can Use It

Claude Design is available to Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Anthropic positions the tool as useful for designers who want to explore multiple directions without time constraints, as well as founders, product managers, and marketers without design backgrounds.

For marketing teams specifically, the tool addresses a common bottleneck: creating and sharing visual concepts quickly without design expertise or lengthy approval cycles.
