Anthropic's Claude Design builds on-brand layouts and automates visual workflows

Anthropic released Claude Design, a front-end layout tool that runs on existing Claude credits with no separate usage limits. It can cut podcast-to-carousel production to under an hour per episode by automating branded content from a portable design system.

Anthropic has released Claude Design, a layout and front-end design tool now available through claude.ai. The tool, currently in Anthropic's labs, handles composition of fonts, colors, spacing, and visual elements without generating images. It runs on general Claude credits rather than separate usage limits, making it accessible to anyone already using the platform.

Claude Design produces functional HTML for websites and landing pages, vector-based animations rendered in code, and software mockups that catch design changes before development begins. The tool pairs with ChatGPT or Midjourney for image generation using design system hex codes when raster graphics are needed.

How the design system works

Users build design systems stored as portable Markdown files - called design.md - that capture brand identity. To set one up, you drag logos, color swatches, and website URLs into Claude Design. The tool asks clarifying questions via voice or text to refine the system. You can request multiple design iterations at once, then refine by clicking and dragging elements until the output matches what you need.

Visual marketing consultant Jeff Sieh demonstrated building a complete design system in about 10 minutes using logos, color swatches, and website URLs. He requested multiple design iterations through voice input using tools like Wispr Flow, and used skills to avoid AI tells in generated text. The exported design.md file works in Claude Code, Gamma, Canva, Adobe tools, and Google Slides.

Automated workflows for content production

The real efficiency gain comes from connecting design systems to recurring content workflows. Podcast cheat sheets generate in 30 to 45 minutes per episode. A carousel automation system built in Claude Code turns transcripts into branded Instagram and LinkedIn carousels with dual image prompts. ChatCut enables voice-command video editing with brand-matched motion graphics, and YouTube thumbnails automatically reference design systems in Claude Code projects.

Sieh's workflow includes creating custom templates for formats that repeat across campaigns. The design system ensures visual consistency while the automation handles the repetitive assembly work. For teams producing regular social content, this removes the bottleneck of manual layout for each new piece.

What you can build

The tool targets marketers, founders, and online shops who need on-brand output without a dedicated design team. Use cases include branded slide decks, landing pages, podcast promotional materials, and social media carousels. Because the design system lives as a portable Markdown file, it travels between tools without reformatting.

Claude Design remains in Anthropic's labs, which means the interface evolves and sessions may time out. It costs nothing beyond the Claude credits users already have. For someone comfortable with AI tools, Anthropic estimates the setup takes an afternoon.

Why this matters for marketers and product teams

Design consistency across channels typically requires either a designer on staff or hours of manual template wrangling. Claude Design compresses brand system creation into a single session and makes the output portable across the tools teams already use. The podcast-to-carousel pipeline alone replaces what would otherwise be a multi-step process involving transcription services, design software, and manual layout - and does it in under an hour per episode. For small teams and solo operators, that time savings directly translates to publishing more content without hiring more people.
