Aventis Graduate School and the University of Puthisastra convened 25 senior Cambodian university leaders in Phnom Penh from July 29 to 31 for a three-day executive program on artificial intelligence in higher education. The session produced a draft three-to-five-year institutional execution framework designed to align academic operations, research output, and administrative systems with emerging AI capabilities. The program divided its curriculum across three daily themes: institutional leadership, pedagogical redesign, and ethical governance. Faculty directors, deans, and department heads worked alongside lead faculty member Professor Luis Hall and global partnerships director Francis Quek to map practical implementation pathways. Participants left with defined roadmaps covering classroom instruction, scholarly productivity, and operational workflows.
"Artificial intelligence is no longer a peripheral concern for universities; it now touches every part of the institution, from the classroom to the boardroom," said Professor Hall. He emphasized that the training prioritized strategic oversight over technical coding skills, giving administrators the frameworks needed to manage risk while maintaining academic standards.
Building institutional execution plans
University of Puthisastra President and Vice-Chancellor Ian Rouse described the initiative as a direct response to shifting industry demands and national workforce priorities. Leaders used the workshop to draft baseline policies for data privacy, assessment integrity, and technology procurement. The resulting framework will guide resource allocation and staff development over the next five years.
