Google Maps will now handle food orders, event ticket purchases, and hotel bookings through its AI assistant, the company announced Thursday. The agentic features, built into the "Ask Maps" conversational tool, let users delegate multi-step tasks like finding a restaurant along a commute and adding a dish to a cart. The features debut in the US, with the assistant also expanding to Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, and Mexico.

Ask Maps takes on multi-step tasks

The food ordering feature finds open restaurants along a user's route that match a craving, factoring in saved places or dietary needs. "Once you select a restaurant, Ask Maps can automatically add the dish you're looking for directly to your cart so you can easily review and complete your order," said Miriam Daniel, Google Maps chief. The feature launches with Square and Toast as payment partners, with Uber Eats to follow.

For events, users can ask Maps for nearby comedy shows or concerts, and the assistant provides ticket links. For hotels, it filters by price, location, amenities, or "vibes," checks availability, and presents options.

Personal Intelligence connects Maps to Gmail and Calendar

Google is also expanding Personal Intelligence, its AI personalization feature. It's off by default, but users can let Ask Maps connect to Gmail or Google Calendar. With that access, Maps can use email correspondence to suggest where to eat before a flight or offer airport arrival tips. If history settings are on, Ask Maps remembers past conversations so users can pick up where they left off.

Why this matters for hospitality and events professionals

For AI for Hospitality & Events professionals, the change is direct: customers can now compare restaurants, check hotel availability, and complete bookings without leaving Maps. That shifts where discovery happens and who gets the booking.

The automation of ordering and booking tasks also points to where AI Agents & Automation are heading in the industry. Features that start in Maps often set expectations for how guests will interact with venues, ticketing platforms, and hotel booking channels next.
