CRM Vendor Attio Deploys Intercom's AI Agent as Always-On Sales Rep

Attio, a CRM vendor, has turned Intercom's Fin AI agent into a sales development representative that works outside business hours. The setup captures inbound leads, qualifies prospects, and hands off conversations to human sellers-all without waiting for someone to arrive at the desk.

The move reflects a shift in buyer behavior. Prospects expect instant answers and increasingly abandon sites that require form submissions and follow-up delays. Will Jones, GTM Associate at Attio, said the company was not solving a broken inbound process-Attio already had strong lead flow. Instead, the team recognized that speed has become table stakes.

"Prospects are coming and they've got used to these AI tools that give them instant answers now and they're being less patient with getting information," Jones said.

How the Setup Works

Fin handles first conversations with prospects who land on Attio's site outside hours or during peak traffic. The agent captures email addresses and qualifies basic fit before handing off qualified leads to sales.

When a prospect drops out mid-conversation, Attio's system automatically triggers follow-ups while interest is still fresh. That prevents intent from disappearing into a void.

The conversation data itself becomes a product. Questions prospects ask, objections they raise, and the language they use feed into sharper landing pages, tighter positioning, and better sales enablement.

Operational Changes After Launch

Paul Adams, Chief Product Officer at Intercom, framed the shift differently than adding another communication channel. AI agents do work that previously required people, which changes how sales and revenue teams allocate time and where expertise should live.

When AI agents can access shared memory and pull from a single source of truth-in this case, a CRM-handoffs improve and prospects stop repeating themselves across conversations.

Both Jones and Adams warned against waiting to implement similar setups. Competitors who move faster will learn faster, they said.
