Axon Unveils Body 5 Camera With More AI Processing Power
Axon’s new Body 5 camera runs AI like translation and threat detection directly on the device, which speeds up alerts but also raises concerns about accuracy and oversight.

Axon has announced a new body-worn camera, the Body 5, with substantially expanded on-device AI processing capacity. The hardware is designed to run features including language translation and real-time escalation detection directly on the camera, without relying on cloud connectivity for every decision.
The shift toward edge intelligence can accelerate public-safety workflows by reducing the time between an event and an automated alert. At the same time, the increased autonomy of the device raises new questions about accuracy, oversight and the handling of evidence generated or flagged by on-camera algorithms.
