Bandwidth Inc. (NASDAQ: BAND) has achieved ISO/IEC 42001 certification for its artificial intelligence management system, covering products, processes, and operations worldwide. The global cloud communications company said the certification validates its role as infrastructure that enterprises rely on for production-ready voice AI deployments.
The certification scope matters because it extends across the entire company, not just a single product line or business unit. Bandwidth owns and operates its global network, which means the AI management system covers the full communications stack - an integrated scope that resellers and virtual providers cannot replicate.
Why the certification matters
Enterprises deploying AI across customer engagement need communications infrastructure that delivers secure and reliable experiences. Gartner forecasts that by 2029, 90 percent of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI, and 85 percent of global enterprises will require AI-based enhanced security in their CPaaS toolsets.
"AI is only as good as the communications platform it runs on," said Kade Ross, Bandwidth's Chief Information Officer. "As enterprises adopt new voice AI services, they need greater control, observability and auditability across the entire operating environment. Achieving comprehensive ISO/IEC 42001 certification matters because it validates the rigor of Bandwidth's combined products, processes and global operations, not just a single application or back-office function. That gives our customers stronger assurance as they scale AI across their most critical communications."
The certification builds on Bandwidth's existing ISO/IEC 27001 certification for information security. The company's Communications Cloud covers roughly 70 countries and 90 percent of global GDP, and its customers include AWS, Cisco, Google, Microsoft, RingCentral, Zoom, Genesys, and Five9.
What the certification covers
ISO/IEC 42001 is an international standard for AI management systems, covering areas like AI ethics, transparency, and continuous learning. For Bandwidth, the certification applies to the AI capabilities enabled through its Maestro orchestration platform and the broader Communications Cloud.
The company's customer base includes Global 2000 enterprises and SaaS builders like Docusign, Uber, and Yosi Health. For AI for Management professionals, the certification provides a reference point for evaluating AI infrastructure vendors against internationally recognized standards.
Why this matters for management professionals
For managers overseeing customer engagement technology, the certification offers a concrete benchmark for vendor evaluation. When comparing communications platforms, ISO/IEC 42001 certification signals that the vendor's AI systems have passed third-party audits covering the entire operating environment - not just a single application or isolated function.
The distinction matters because AI for Executives & Strategy decisions increasingly hinge on compliance and trust. Bandwidth's certification covers the underlying infrastructure, which is where data flows and where security risks live. Before committing to a voice AI deployment, management teams can now ask whether the provider's AI management system has been independently certified to international standards.
