Basware Launches AI Agent Training for Finance Professionals

Basware rolled out a certification program designed to teach accounts payable professionals how to manage AI agents embedded in their daily work. The training targets AP clerks, invoice controllers, and finance team leaders with a practical, non-technical curriculum.

The program reflects a shift in how finance departments view AI. Rather than replacing workers, the agents handle routine tasks like data extraction, coding, and invoice routing-freeing staff to focus on decisions that require human judgment.

"AI is reshaping AP, making the teams driving it more efficient and productive, but it will not replace them," said Jason Kurtz, CEO of Basware. "To get the most out of AI agents, organizations need to treat them as digital employees, and that means training people not just to use AI, but to manage it."

What the Program Covers

The Basware Certified Invoice AI Agent Professional course is structured in three sections: understanding what AI agents can and cannot do, applying them to current workflows, and preparing for future finance operations.

Participants learn to identify which tasks are automated versus human-owned, perform AP activities with AI assistance, and build confidence working alongside these tools. The training uses Basware's Invoice Lifecycle Management platform to show how agents handle rule-based work while humans maintain control over exceptions and strategic decisions.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding what AI agents can and cannot do
  • Identifying which tasks are automated versus human-owned
  • Performing day-to-day AP activities with AI assistance
  • Building confidence in AI-driven workflows
  • Connecting today's tools to the future of finance

The training reflects a broader need in finance: professionals who understand when to trust AI recommendations and when to override them will be better positioned to extract value from these systems. Learn more about AI for Finance and AI Agents & Automation to deepen your knowledge.
