Basware Launches Certification Program for Finance Teams Working With AI Agents
Basware announced a new training program designed to help accounts payable professionals manage AI agents as digital teammates rather than fear replacement. The certification course launches May 11 through Basware Academy and targets AP clerks, invoice controllers, and finance team leaders globally.
The move reflects a widening gap between AI adoption and actual implementation. A survey found that 66% of finance leaders say agentic AI generates more hype than previous technology shifts, yet 75% are still figuring out how to use it effectively.
What the Program Covers
The three-part course teaches finance professionals to:
- Understand what AI agents can and cannot do
- Identify which tasks are automated versus human-owned
- Perform day-to-day AP activities with AI assistance
- Build confidence in AI-driven workflows
- Connect current tools to future finance operations
The curriculum uses a non-technical approach and shows how AI agents embedded in Basware's Invoice Lifecycle Management platform handle rule-based work like data extraction, coding, and routing. Humans retain decision-making authority on tasks requiring judgment.
The Human Role in AI-Driven Finance
Basware CEO Jason Kurtz said the program aims to show AP professionals that AI will free them from routine processing tasks, not eliminate their jobs. "Those who understand AI, know when to trust it and when to override it, and how to make it perform better over time will thrive," Kurtz said.
The certification represents a shift in how finance teams think about their roles. Rather than managing invoices, professionals increasingly need to manage the agents processing them-a new category of work that doesn't yet have widespread training available.
