Boris FX Continuum 2026.5 Adds AI Deinterlace Tool and Updated Models

Boris FX released Continuum 2026.5, introducing new AI-powered image restoration tools alongside updates to four existing machine learning models. The software now includes an AI deinterlace effect, improvements to face and license plate detection, and a redesigned compositing interface.

The new BCC+ Deinterlace ML converts interlaced video-including analog TV broadcasts and VHS tapes-into progressive-scan frames automatically. Boris FX CEO Boris Yamnitsky said the company focuses on AI tasks where the technology delivers clear value, such as image restoration and masking.

Updated AI Models and GPU Management

Four existing AI models received accuracy improvements: Face ML, License Plate ML, Motion Blur ML, and UpRes ML. Face ML now segments the nose and neck. Motion Blur ML adds a prismatic colored blur trails feature.

The software introduces an automatic model unload system. If an AI model sits unused for a set period, Continuum removes it from GPU memory to free space. The model reloads instantly when needed again.

FX Editor Gains Workflow Tools

Continuum's FX Editor-the interface for browsing presets and adjusting parameters-now includes three new panels. The Pixel Chooser isolates effects using shape masks, luminance keys, and AI-driven depth maps, reducing the need for multiple layers.

A new Color Management Panel ensures consistent color workflows using industry-standard OCIO presets and includes Exposure and Gamma sliders. The Info Panel displays real-time RGBA and pixel position data for color accuracy.

Effects and Transitions Overhauled

Ten warp and displacement effects received major updates. BCC+ Ripple now offers three independent ripples, new waveform shapes, and perpendicular height controls-all without keyframing.

Displacement effects include access to 1,000+ built-in displacement maps, RGB separation, integrated glitch effects for cinematic fracturing, and Beat Reactor integration that syncs animations to music. Three wipe transitions-Smoke Wipe, Texture Wipe, and Depth Wipe-add gradient controls that guide wipe direction and blend shots naturally.

The release adds 150+ new presets across multiple effect categories and integrates Beat Reactor into seven additional effects.

Particle Illusion Adds Parameter Controls

Particle Illusion introduces parameter linking, which connects settings across particle nodes for instant updates. A new color mapping feature provides precise gradient control in angular, linear, and radial modes.

The Clone Particle Type function automatically links position-related parameters to keep multi-node effects aligned during adjustments. Artists can retroactively modify existing presets using Link All Clone Parameters.
