Nigerian Lawyers and Tech Experts to Tackle Access to Justice with AI

Next week, Abuja will host a gathering of Nigerian lawyers, technology experts, and academics to address how artificial intelligence and digital technology can improve access to justice. The event, scheduled for 10 May at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution in Abuja’s Central Business District, aims to explore practical solutions for the legal sector.

Agbo Obinnaya, co-founder of the legal tech platform Case Radar AI, announced that about 500 participants are expected. This meeting will be one of Nigeria’s first focused discussions on democratizing legal knowledge and streamlining legal processes through technology.

Empowering Young Professionals with Practical Tools

The event includes a professional headshot session offering free photos to young professionals. These images are meant to boost their online presence and credibility, which are essential for career growth in today’s professional environment.

Participants will also receive certificates in areas such as artificial intelligence, legal technology, career development, job interview techniques, and CV reviews. Additionally, a free book on LinkedIn optimization will be provided to help attendees improve their networking and professional visibility.

Case Radar offers five core tools that simplify legal advice and document generation. The platform is accessible via phone or laptop and requires no legal background to use. This accessibility is key for bridging the gap between ordinary citizens and legal services in Nigeria.

Obinnaya emphasized that the platform aims to make legal information affordable, available 24/7, and easy to understand, addressing the slow and costly nature of Nigeria’s legal system.

The Challenge of Access to Justice in Nigeria

Despite having a comprehensive legal framework, many Nigerians face barriers to justice due to poverty, lack of awareness, and corruption. Legal representation often remains out of reach for the majority, while court processes can be prohibitively expensive and slow.

This situation frequently results in unequal treatment, where the wealthy have an advantage, and the vulnerable struggle to have their cases heard.

Recent advancements in legal technology, including AI-powered tools, have started to change how legal services are delivered in Nigeria. These tools help individuals without formal legal training understand their rights and navigate the legal system more effectively.

Experts believe that AI will continue to impact the largely analogue Nigerian legal ecosystem, making services more efficient and accessible.
