Broward Schools Hosts AI Education Event for Families
Broward County Public Schools held an event at Nova High School in Davie on June 8 to help parents and students understand how artificial intelligence is being integrated into classrooms and school operations.
The district said the event was designed to ensure families have the knowledge and resources to support students as AI becomes more prevalent in education and the workforce.
What the District Plans
BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said the event explained "how Broward County Public Schools plans to use AI in the classroom and outside the classroom as well."
School Board Chair Sarah Leonardi emphasized the need for leaders to anticipate how AI will change education. "It's really important for leaders and policy makers to anticipate the big changes that AI is going to bring and prepare our students and our families for an AI workforce," she said.
The event included demonstrations from students showing how they use AI tools in their work.
Addressing Concerns and Benefits
Hepburn said staff, parents, and students need education about AI because it is an emerging technology that will continue to grow. "It's not going anywhere, so we need to make sure we understand it," he said.
The district said it is positioning itself to meet both student needs and local industry demands as AI adoption increases.
For educators looking to develop AI skills, the AI Learning Path for Teachers offers structured training. Additional resources on AI for Education can help schools and families stay informed.
