Camunda Launches ProcessOS to Automate Enterprise Process Redesign

Camunda announced ProcessOS, an intelligence layer that uses AI agents to discover, redesign, and continuously improve business processes. The company revealed the product at CamundaCon in Amsterdam, where CEO Jakob Freund told 1,200 enterprise leaders that most AI adoption in operations has stalled because companies bolt AI onto legacy processes instead of rethinking them from scratch.

"The constraint is not access to AI but knowing where it belongs in your business and redesigning your operations and enterprise architecture around it," Freund said.

The Problem: Legacy Processes Designed Before AI

Enterprise AI adoption has largely stopped at task-level assistance-recommendations, search tools, chatbots that can't act independently. Moving beyond that requires rethinking which tasks should exist at all and who should do them: AI agents or humans.

Camunda's argument is straightforward: every existing process was designed for a world without AI. Grafting AI onto those processes adds technical debt, complexity, and cost. Real transformation requires working backward from desired business outcomes, not forward from current operations.

How ProcessOS Works

ProcessOS operates in three phases:

  • Discover: Extract existing processes from knowledge bases and operational data.
  • Re-engineer: Redesign processes for an AI-first world based on defined outcomes.
  • Continuously improve: Optimize processes against key performance indicators.

The system generates full process solutions-including agentic workflows, integrations, data mapping, agent prompts, decisions, and UI forms-drawing from a growing catalog of templates and connectors on Camunda's marketplace.

Users describe desired outcomes in natural language. ProcessOS creates the process, deploys it, and optimizes it based on business results. The platform builds a knowledge base that compounds over time, learning which patterns and integrations work in a specific organization.

Governance Built In

ProcessOS maintains human control at three levels. Process models visually show which steps AI handles and under what conditions. Every process modification requires human review and approval before production deployment. The system prioritizes approved patterns and connectors, improving with each feedback loop.

The platform works as an orchestration layer on top of existing enterprise systems-ERP, CRM, core banking, claims management-rather than replacing them.

Early Adoption and Market Position

Barclays is collaborating with Camunda on ProcessOS. "Transformation starts with a bold vision of the future - and ProcessOS turns that vision into a practical path forward," said Lily Wang, managing director at the bank.

Forrester analyst Bernhard Schaffrik said the market is moving toward "AI-first agentic approaches that blend AI with deterministic workflows while vendors consolidate tools into orchestration backbones emphasizing governance, observability, and hybrid human-in-the-loop execution."

ProcessOS enters closed beta today for selected enterprises. The platform runs natively on AWS with deep integration into Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore.
