Candid Health raises $120 million in Series D funding

Candid Health raised $120 million in Series D funding to scale its AI-powered medical billing and claims automation platform. The round, led by Sixth Street Growth, brings the San Francisco company's total capital to about $219 million and underscores heavy investor appetite for technology that chips away at the $280 billion spent annually on U.S. healthcare revenue cycle management.

The company works with more than 200 healthcare organizations, including Talkiatry, Tia, Luna, Cortica and Nourish. Its system targets the core financial plumbing of medical groups, managed service organizations and digital health companies - automating the submission and follow-up of insurance claims so providers get paid faster with fewer errors.

Replacing patchwork legacy tools

Nick Perry, Candid Health's co-founder and CEO, described the company's approach as a rebuild from scratch. "The legacy players haven't kept pace, and the companies lightly sprinkling AI on top of them have yet to deliver. We've spent the past seven years rebuilding the core infrastructure of this problem space from the ground up," he said.

Alex Katz, managing director at Sixth Street Growth, said Candid is filling an unmet need. "Candid is solving major structural challenges in healthcare revenue cycle management with modern, AI-powered infrastructure that drives meaningful efficiency across the system, and we believe Candid's platform is well-positioned to become the foundational infrastructure for the future of healthcare RCM over the long term," Katz told MedCity News.

The Series D includes participation from existing backers Oak HC/FT, 8VC and Y Combinator. It arrives just eight months after a $52.5 million Series C in February 2025, also led by Oak HC/FT.

Building toward agentic RCM

Candid Health said the fresh capital will accelerate development of agentic revenue cycle management solutions - systems that can act with more autonomy in claim workflows - and support hiring across engineering and go-to-market teams.

Co-founder and COO Doug Proctor tied the company's mission directly to cost reduction. "American healthcare is too expensive, and it's untenable. We want to reduce the amount of back-end inefficiency and waste in American healthcare. We want to providers to spend more time focusing on patient care," he said.

The crowded AI billing market

Candid Health operates alongside competitors like AKASA, RapidClaims and Nym Health, all pursuing a slice of the massive administrative spending pool. As automation reshapes the field, an AI Learning Path for Medical Billers helps professionals build skills for the tools displacing manual claims work.

Why this matters for healthcare professionals

For billing managers and financial leaders inside provider organizations, the funding signals that AI-driven RCM isn't a pilot project anymore - it's drawing nine-figure investments. The shift toward agentic systems will likely change job roles, requiring staff who can manage exceptions and oversee automated workflows rather than key data by hand. Getting familiar with how these platforms make decisions and where they still need human judgment will become a practical skill, not a speculative one.
