China's AI Job Market Surges as Companies Across Sectors Hire Technical Talent
Demand for AI professionals in China is accelerating across industries, with job listings for product managers and engineers climbing sharply year over year.
Recruitment platform Zhilian Zhaopin reported that postings for AI product managers rose 81 percent compared to the same period last year. Technical roles - including AI engineers and data trainers - grew 17 percent during that timeframe.
"Companies across all sectors are now hiring AI engineers and AI product managers, whereas in the past, it was basically just the top-tier tech giants," said Li Qiang, vice-president of Zhilian Zhaopin.
The shift reflects a broader move beyond China's largest technology companies. Mid-size and smaller firms are now actively recruiting for roles that were once concentrated at industry leaders.
Product Manager Roles See Steepest Growth
AI product manager positions show the strongest demand growth. Recruitment platform Maimai reported in its 2025 Talent Migration Report that advertised positions for this role jumped 369.4 percent year on year.
Large language model algorithm engineers came second, with demand climbing 248.7 percent.
These figures suggest companies are prioritizing roles that bridge technical capability and business strategy as they integrate AI into operations.
What This Means for IT Professionals
For developers and technical staff, the hiring surge creates opportunity. Product management and generative AI and LLM skills are becoming baseline expectations across sectors, not just at tech firms.
Professionals looking to strengthen their position in this market can explore AI for IT and development training to build the technical foundation these roles demand.
