The Chartered Institute of Public Relations has released a practical guide for members on using artificial intelligence responsibly in internal communications. AI and Digital Ethics for Communicators outlines five key roles communicators should play to ensure AI use remains ethical and accountable within organisations.

The guide includes prompt engineering guidance, ethical checkpoints for AI-involved tasks, practical do's and don'ts, a governance toolkit, and scenario cards for team training.

What's included

  • Guidance on effective AI prompting
  • Ethical checks for communications tasks involving AI
  • Practical do's and don'ts
  • A lightweight governance kit
  • Scenario cards for team discussions and onboarding

CIPR Inside Chair Jenni Field said the guide gives PR professionals "a practical framework that supports informed, accountable and efficient action" when making decisions about AI use. The resource applies across PR disciplines but focuses particularly on internal communications.

CIPR members can log 10 CPD points for reading the guide. It is available exclusively to members through the CIPR Inside Group.
