Claimence launches AI platform to automate D&O claims analysis
Claimence has introduced an AI platform designed to automate directors and officers (D&O) liability claims analysis, a segment of financial lines insurance that has relied on manual processes since 1985.
The platform produces a documented analysis and draft determination letter in under 30 minutes. Claims handlers then review the output before making final coverage decisions.
What the platform does
Users upload a complaint and the relevant insurance policy. The system generates an initial coverage assessment, including coverage mapping and draft determination letters with detailed reasoning and source references.
The platform achieves more than 89% accuracy in initial analysis, according to Claimence. It reduces claims analysis costs by 30-40% and improves processing times by five to ten times.
Human oversight remains central
The platform operates using a human-in-the-loop model. AI handles tasks such as matching policy language to complaints, while claims professionals retain authority over coverage outcomes.
Anthony Faulise, Claimence's acting chief product officer, said: "The goal was never to take humans out of the process. It was to give them better tools. Claims professionals bring judgment, experience and accountability that no AI can replicate."
He added: "What Claimence does is eliminate the manual drudgery that buries those professionals - so they can do the work that actually requires their expertise, faster and with a stronger record behind every decision."
Market context
The financial lines claim segment currently represents a $5.6 billion cost base, with projections indicating growth to $11.8 billion by 2031.
D&O-related litigation is increasing, including securities class actions and derivative actions. Despite wider adoption of AI for underwriting, fraud detection, and personal lines claims, D&O claims processes have remained largely manual.
