Claude can now generate videos directly through a HeyGen MCP connector, sending prompts to HeyGen's video generation system and receiving finished videos stored in your HeyGen projects. The integration removes the manual steps of exporting scripts and juggling separate tools, letting a single prompt trigger an entire production sequence.
For a long time, AI tools mostly worked alone. One tool wrote text. Another edited video. A third handled automation. You bounced between them, copying prompts, exporting files, stitching workflows together. Useful, yes. Smooth? Not exactly. That pattern is starting to change. Connectors and APIs now let AI systems talk to each other directly, passing instructions back and forth almost like collaborators.
What the MCP connector does
Model Context Protocol (MCP) acts as a communication bridge. It lets Claude interact with external services instead of staying trapped inside a chat window. Claude understands your request. The MCP connector gives Claude permission to pass that request to HeyGen. Once connected, Claude can trigger real actions such as generating a video, retrieving a project, or sending instructions to HeyGen's engine.
For video workflows, this removes several tedious steps. You describe a topic to Claude, and the system hands the text to HeyGen's avatars and voice synthesis for production. Teams producing frequent content can scale output without opening editing tools.
How the workflow operates
You type a request into Claude. Claude interprets the prompt, then hands the task to HeyGen through the MCP connector. A moment later, a video begins taking shape inside your HeyGen account. No exporting scripts, no juggling tabs, no awkward file transfers.
Claude acts as the coordinator. MCP serves as the bridge that allows instructions to leave the chat environment. Once the request reaches HeyGen, the platform assembles avatars, voice, and visuals into a finished video. From the outside, it's just a prompt. Under the hood, several pieces move together in a small choreography of automation.
Setting up the connector
The process takes a minute or two. You add HeyGen as a custom connector inside Claude, then approve the connection.
Step 1: Add the connector. Open Claude, click + → Connector → Manage Connector, select Add Custom Connector, name it, and paste the MCP server URL: https://mcp.heygen.com/mcp/v1/. This registers HeyGen as a trusted tool Claude can call. Without this connection, Claude can describe videos but cannot produce them.
Step 2: Authenticate. Click Connect, log in on the HeyGen authentication page, approve access, and Claude activates the connector automatically. This only needs to happen once.
Step 3: Adjust permissions. Set permissions to Always Allow to prevent repeated approval prompts and let Claude send requests instantly. This step is optional but speeds up generation.
Step 4: Use a prompt. Example: "Generate a video using HeyGen MCP about the difference between Skills and MCP." Claude sends the request to HeyGen, triggers avatar and voice creation, produces the completed video, and stores the file inside your HeyGen Projects.
Where the videos end up
Finished videos appear inside your HeyGen Projects page. From there you can edit scenes, download the file, share a link with collaborators, or reuse the video for other campaigns. Everything stays inside your HeyGen workspace, so marketing teams, educators, and creators can generate videos through Claude and manage the finished content centrally.
What you can create
Once the connector is active, you can move straight from concept to finished video. Common uses include product explainer videos, short marketing campaign clips, training and onboarding videos, social media snippets, educational explainers, and sales outreach videos. Producing multiple variations becomes easy with a quick tweak to the wording.
There is one practical nuance. Your plan level influences how often you can generate videos and how long they can be. Free accounts work for testing. Regular production usually requires an upgrade.
Why this matters for marketing, sales, and content teams
The integration collapses a multi-step production process into a prompt. For marketing and communications professionals, this means campaign videos can move from concept to draft in minutes rather than hours. Sales teams can generate personalized outreach clips without waiting on video editors. HR and training leads can produce onboarding explainers on demand. Writers and creators can test more ideas faster because the production barrier drops. The effect is speed, but also experimentation. When production becomes easier, teams iterate more.
