Cognizant Launches Selective Program to Build AI Engineering Talent

Cognizant announced the Cognizant Ace Team Program, a hiring and development initiative designed to build a cohort of engineers focused on delivering AI-native solutions for clients. The India-based program launches immediately, with plans to expand globally.

The program combines selective recruitment, a structured career pathway and a centralized engineering community. Candidates are evaluated on technical competency, AI fluency and communication skills-not educational pedigree alone.

What the selection process looks for

The multi-stage evaluation assesses full-stack AI development, data structures and algorithms, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic AI and modern front-end development. Communication and aptitude assessments are included alongside technical interviews.

Selected engineers join as full-stack AI engineers and work on production codebases from early in their tenure. They build RAG pipelines, agentic workflows and LLM-integrated applications across industries.

Scope and expansion timeline

The initial phase targets existing offer holders and off-campus candidates, including graduates from top-tier institutions. Cognizant plans to expand to premium campuses, partner schools, internal employees and engineers with one to three years of experience.

Rajesh Varrier, President of Global Operations and Chairman & Managing Director of Cognizant India, said the program addresses the shift from AI experimentation to production deployment. "Delivering measurable, scalable AI outcomes increasingly depends on AI-ready skills and strong engineering fundamentals," Varrier said.

Connection to company strategy

The Ace Team supports three core strategic areas: Hyperproductivity, Industrializing AI and Agentification. The program aims to accelerate time to market, advance end-to-end modernization and develop platforms that scale reliably.

Engineers looking to develop these competencies can explore AI Coding Courses and Generative AI and LLM Courses to build the technical foundation required for roles like this.
