Data Management Firm DMP SA Acquires Stake in Software Developer PDA

Data Management Professionals South Africa (DMP SA) has acquired a stake in Plastic Duck Armada (PDA), a local software development company, to scale its AI-driven data management services. The deal formalizes a collaboration that has spanned more than a decade.

DMP SA Managing Director Iniel Dreyer said the partnership moves beyond project-based work. "There's meaningful intellectual property involved, and we want to build this as a cornerstone capability for our business going forward, not only for our internal systems, but also for the solutions we deliver to our customers."

Shifting Work From Manual to Automated

The acquisition allows DMP SA to redirect staff time away from manual pattern identification and toward higher-value customer work. Instead of spending hours tracking down problems across systems, teams can now focus on solving customer problems and developing skills.

Dreyer said the shift reflects how AI and process-driven automation handle repetitive monitoring and prediction tasks better than people do. "By letting technology handle the repetitive work, our people can focus on solving real problems, engaging with customers and growing their skills."

Speed and Depth of Insights

Hemant Harie, Group Chief Technology Officer at DMP SA, said the co-developed platform can surface insights in seconds instead of hours or days. The system correlates data across the full environment in ways traditional systems could not.

"Technology on its own is only as strong as the thinking, experience and development behind it," Harie said. "Our team brings decades of deep data-management and managed-services knowledge." The platform embeds that expertise directly into its architecture.

Rather than reporting what happened, the system now identifies what events mean for a customer's business, what risks lie downstream, and what actions should follow. It can trigger automated responses in the background without manual intervention.

Why PDA Was the Right Partner

Matt Besseling, Founder and Managing Director at PDA, said DMP SA's existing infrastructure and business knowledge allowed PDA to accelerate product development with minimal friction. The partnership also gives PDA access to a broad customer base with diverse integration and data management requirements.

Both organizations share a commitment to automation and AI-driven solutions, and both are willing to invest in the infrastructure required to make them work. "There's real cultural alignment," Besseling said.
