Egypt’s Supreme Council of Universities has approved a significant policy change: technical school graduates can now gain direct admission into university programs in computer science and artificial intelligence. This update removes the previous requirement for complex equivalency procedures, simplifying university access for these students.

Graduates from five-year and three-year technical schools, applied technology schools, and post-secondary technical institutes specializing in AI and computing are now eligible to compete directly for university places. This includes students from Telecom Egypt’s WE ICT Schools, who for the first time have a clear path to pursue higher education in technology fields.

The initiative is a joint effort coordinated by the Ministries of Education, Technical Education, and Higher Education, operating under the supervision of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. It introduces a flexible quota system that sets minimum admission thresholds based on the technical category of the applicants.

Growth of Applied Technology Schools

Applied technology schools have expanded rapidly, growing from just three in 2018 to 70 across 19 governorates today. These schools combine academic learning with hands-on experience and industry certifications, providing students with internationally accredited diplomas, work experience credentials, and professional certifications from leading ICT companies.
